Byron Bay Triathalon And Multisport Festival 10 11 May 2014

Each year over 1000 athletes arrive in lovely Byron Bay to compete in the Olympic length Triathlon event – 1.5km Swim; 40km Cycle; 10km Run. The kids also get to compete in their own Aquathon event – run, swim, run. This year will also see the inaugural Run for Mum & Mothers Day Family Walk on the Sunday – raising funds for charity.

The Byron Bay Triathlon is steeped in history and is now in its 19th year. It is an Olympic Distance event and attracts around 1,300 competitors from many different countries. Traditionally it is held on the second weekend in May every year and signals the last race in the QLD/NSW triathlon calendar. As a result it is often seen as an end of season party for many competitors with a big party on the Saturday night. Due to its fantastic location, many competitors also bring their family, stay for a week and relax in the beautiful Byron Shire.

The Byron Bay Tri is regarded by many as one of the friendliest triathlons on the coast. Competitors enjoy a 1.5km ocean swim in the crystal clear, tranquil waters of Byron Bay; a 40km cycle past cane fields, rainforest, coastal bush and the gently rolling farmland of Northern NSW; then they top it all off with a run through the streets, under the picturesque Byron Bay Lighthouse.

This year the event will take place on Saturday the 10th and Sunday 11th of May coinciding with Mothers Day for the ‘Run For Mum’ and ‘Mothers Day Family Walk. This is a fantastic event for the whole family to be involved in or simply watching. So jump on the event website and book and while you are at it why not organise your accommodation for the weekend with us here at The Byron Quarter Holiday Apartments!
