Beaches Of Byron Bay Wategos

Watego’s is a popular and beautiful beach just over a small headland from Clarkes Beach, depending on the tides it can sometimes be accessible by the beach.

A sheltered and north-facing beach of approximately 600m in length it has appeal all year round and is backed by an amphitheater shaped valley near the tip of Cape Byron. The 4km long Cape Byron Walking Track runs along the rear of the beach.

The beach is named for the Watego family who grew bananas and vegetables where houses now stand back in the mid 1930s.

Northerly swells make Watego’s Beach particularly good for Malibu surfers and beginners.

By car you can access Watego’s via Lighthouse Road, turn left into Brooke Drive.
